Hampden Little League hosts State Tournament for 11-12 All-Stars baseball

With the mandate by the Little League East Region to start the 11-12 baseball State Tournament on Saturday, July 24 instead of the planned Friday start time, a new scheduled has been set changing the number of games being played on Sunday, Monday,and Tuesday.

The new schedule now has South Berwick (District 4) and Dirigo (District 5) opening the tournament (Game 1) on Saturday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. Game two will be at 4:30 on Saturday between Ellsworth (District 1) and Cumberland-North Yarmouth (District 6).

On Sunday, July 25, Bangor East (District 3) will face the winner of Saturday’s game 1 winner at 12:30 p.m. Camden-Rockport (District 2) will play the winner of Saturday’s game 2 at 3:00 p.m.

Monday is an elimination day with game five at 3:00 and game six at 5:30. On Tuesday, July 27 the winners from games three and four will play at 3:00 in game seven with the winner advancing to the championship round. Game eight will be an elimination game scheduled for 5:30.

Game nine is an elimination game scheduled for 5:30 on Wednesday, July 28. The winner of this game will advance to the championship round.

Thursday, July 29 will be the scheduled championship game at 5:30, and if needed the final championship game will be at 5:30 on Friday, July 30.

Anglers cruise to HNLL championship win over FA Peabody

Kohl Ross and Billy Campbell sparked Anglers at the plate, and Ben Huston got the job done on the mound as Anglers came back from a four run first inning deficit to cruise past FA Peabody for a 19-9 victory to claim the 2010 Hampden-Newburgh Little League championship Monday night in Hampden in front of a huge crowd of parents, family, friends, and fans.

Ross had two doubles, a triple, a single, and five RBIs at the plate, and Campbell added a Home Run, double, and four RBIs to spark Anglers offensively. Huston, after struggling in the first inning, picked up the win holding Peabody scoreless over the second, third, and fourth innings while his team piled on the runs.

Peabody opened the game with a four run first inning highlighted by a Dylan Cray 2-run single and RBI singles by Zach Boss and Connor Roy. Anglers got right back into the game in the bottom half of the first when Ben Huston walked and came all the way around to score on Peabody throwing errors, an Eric Armstrong single, and a two run home run by Campbell.

Anglers added four runs in the second on two run singles by Ross and Mike Labun to take a 7-4 lead. They added five runs in the fourth highlighted by a 2-run triple from Ross and an RBI triple by Cam Scott for a 12-4 lead.

Peabody closed the gap with a four run fifth inning on four singles and a walk to close the score to 12-8, but Anglers answered back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away. Campbell had a 2-run double in the inning, while Ross and Scott added RBI doubles and Huston had an RBI single.

FA Peabody scored four in the first, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Anglers scored three in the first, four in the second, five in the fourth, and seven in the fifth inning.

Joining Ross and Campbell at the plate for the Anglers was Scott and Michael Veneziano each with a single, double, triple, and two RBIs. Huston had two singles, a double, and an RBI, and Labun added a single and two RBIs.

Cray had a double, single, and two RBIs to lead Peabody at the plate. Andrew Gendreau added two singles, while Roy and Boss each had an RBI single.

Memorial Day week-end action

The start of Memorial Day week-end did not stop Little League action in Hampden, although it did shorten the rosters of some teams and forced one to have to forfeit a game.

The hot bat of the day on Saturday belonged to Dylan Frost from the Phantom Calls team. Frost had a triple in all three games he played (two scheduled games plus a fill in for a scrimmage game), and drove in at least seven runs on the day helping Phantom Calls win two games.

In the first game, Phantom Calls defeated Kiwanis 7-2. Frost was the winning pitcher and had a 3-run triple.

In the second game, David Manzo homered and Frost had an RBI triple as Phantom Calls knocked off Sargent Corporation 23-5.

In the third game, FA Peabody was forced to forfeit to Anglers due to lack of players. The two teams did scrimmage each other, and Frost, filling in for the Anglers, added a 2-run triple.

Dysart and Manzo lead Phantom Calls to win over Kiwanis

Jordan Dysart and David Manzo combined to drive in four runs in the first inning as the Phantom Calls scored five runs on their way to an 11-5 win over Kiwanis in a Hampden-Newburgh little league major league baseball game.

Dysart belted a two run triple in the first, and Manzo drilled a two run home run over the right field fence in the first inning. Dysart had a triple, double, and single in the game, and Manzo had a home run and double with three RBIs.

Dylan Frost added two singles for PHA, and Dakota Clement singled for his first major league base hit. Frost picked up the win from the hill, and Bradley Guerrette closed out the game in relief for Frost.

Brendan McIntyre had a triple and an RBI and Vince Gilmore added a double with two RBIs to lead Kiwanis at the plate.

Campbell wreaks havoc on Dysarts in Anglers victory

Saturday afternoon in Hampden, Billy Campbell single handedly accounted for nearly one third of the total runs scored as the Anglers remained undefeated with a 21-8 victory over Dysarts. Evan Clark picked up the win for Anglers from the mound. The Anglers scored 20 plus runs in two games on Saturday, and improved to 6-0 on the season.

Campbell tripled to deep right field in the second inning, as the ball clanked off the bottom of the fence on the fly, and he then scored on a throwing error.

The Anglers broke open a 1-1 tie in the third inning scoring 11 runs to take a 12-1 lead. Campbell provided the highlights when Ben Huston, Eric Armstrong, and Cam Scott all reached base to load the bases. Campbell then went opposite field again sending the ball over the right field fence for a grand slam home run putting the Anglers on top 5-1. Campbell came up again in the inning and drove in his fifth run of the inning to help the Anglers take an 11 run lead.

Campbell doubled for the second time in the game in the fifth inning to help the Anglers increase their lead to 21-5 before Dysarts added three runs in the top of the sixth highlighted by a two run double from Jared Grodewald to cut the Anglers lead to 21-8 before time ran out on Dysarts in the inning.

Campbell finished with 11 total bases on two doubles, a triple, and a home run while driving in six runs and scoring three.

Majors-Minors Thursday night action

Little League season is upon us, and any night Monday through Friday along with Saturday morning and afternoon, you can find lots of little league baseball action in Hampden. The Canoe Club Road minors field and VFW road majors field heats up near May 1 and continues through the third week of June.

This web site was constructed in 2008 for the players, parents, and family members of Hampden-Newburgh Little League to help promote the children involved in the organization. Over the past two years there has been limited support received from all involved in HNLL, therefore limiting the promotion of your kids for all their efforts. We need your help!

If you are a parent or family member of a player involved in HNLL you can help. Urge your team coaches to give you the information we need so you can email us, or ask that they email us at skip@mainesportsreport.com with the information.

We are looking for a game score, BOTH team's top hitters, and the winning pitcher. The more information received, the more kids get to see their name in print on the web site. I constantly hear all the time how the kids get excited about seeing their name, as well as photos, on the web site.

So please, help promote the young athletes of HNLL by sending along game information. We can not report what we don't know, so we need your help.

Help keep this web site alive by getting game results to us. No one more than the kids playing the games will appreciate your efforts.

Anglers win again in Wednesday night action

Wednesday night in Hampden, the Anglers continued their dominance with an 11-1 victory over Kiwanis at the majors field. The Anglers improved to 4-0 on the season, while Kiwanis fell to 1-3.

Anglers bring the hot bats for Hampden-Newburgh Little League season opener

Wednesday night in Hampden, Ben Huston, Cameron Scott, and Billy Campbell, along with Eric Armstrong combined for 17 hits and 11 runs batted in as the Anglers opened their 2010 Little League season with a 24-4 victory over Dysarts at the baseball complex.

Huston went 6-for-6 at the plate with a triple, double, and four singles with three runs batted in. Scott was also perfect at the plate with a 5-for-5 night. He had three doubles and two singles with three RBIs. Campbell had two doubles and two singles and drove in three runs, and Armstrong added a double and single with two RBIs.

Anglers scored in all five innings of the game, plating four runs in the first, eight in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, and eight in the fifth inning.

Huston, Campbell, and Armstrong held Dysarts to seven hits and four runs from the mound with Huston picking up the win.

Dysarts scored two in the first and two in the third inning. Nick Hopper had a double and single with four runs batted in to lead Dysarts at the plate. Paxton Oversmith added a double and single.

Hawes silences Holbrook bats in 14-2 Hampden Dirigo win

HAMPDEN - Matt Hawes held the Holbrook White bats in check Sunday afternoon allowing just two runs on three hits over a game shortened five innings as the Hampden Dirigo Junior League team cruised to a 14-2 win at Bordick Park.

After issuing a lead off walk to start the game, Hawes retired the next eight batters he faced while the Dirigo bats built up a 13-0 lead over the first three innings. Holbrook finally broke through for two runs off Hawes in the fourth inning on three hits.

Hawes cruised through the fifth inning to close the game out, as both teams agreed to call the game because Holbrook had another game to follow.

Hampden had 14 runs on 11 hits, and did not make an error (14-11-0). Leading Dirigo in hitting was Brian Fickett with a triple, single, and three RBIs and Matt Martin with three singles and three RBIs. Kurt Townsend had two singles and two RBIs, Hawes had a single and two RBIs, and Cooper Antone added a single and an RBI. Tim Coston and CJ Warren both chipped in with a single.

Holbrook scored two runs on three hits, and they committed four errors. John Collins led Holbrook with a double and two RBIs, while Rylan Norris and Josh Williams each added a single.

Holbrook runs past Hampden Rounders 18-10

HAMPDEN - At Bordick Park Sunday afternoon, the Holbrook Red Junior League baseball team scored 14 runs over the final three innings to put away the Hampden Rounders 18-10.

Holbrook scored 18 runs on nine hits and committed two errors. Hitting for Holbrook was Nolan Webber with four singles and two RBIs, John Deshaine with two singles and an RBI, Shawn Curran with a single and an RBI, and Parker Benson and Ethan Handley each with a single.

Hampden had 10 runs on 16 hits and made eight errors. Hitters for Hampden were Roy Donnelly with two singles, a double, and four runs scored, Sam Ward with two doubles and two RBIs, Sage Rapp with two singles and an RBI, Keegan Quigley and Michael Ward with two singles each, Matt Hammond with a single and two RBIs, and Sam Jordan, Erik Hansen, Josh Kocic, and Sam Donnelly each had a single.

Dirigo squeaks out 8-7 win over Dysart's

Friday night in Hampden, Dirigo Slipform held off a sixth inning Dysart's bases loaded rally and came away with an 8-7 victory.

Trailing 8-7, Dysarts loaded the bases with no outs and threatened to regain the lead. Dirigo pitcher Casey Sudbeck got the next batter to fly out to left field. The next batter fouled out behind the plate as Dirigo's Noah Gradner made a great catch while holding the runners. Sudbeck finished off Dysart's by striking out the next batter to end the game and preserve the win for Dirigo.

Dirigo took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, and made it 5-0 in the third. Dysarts finally broke through for a run in the fourth, and took a 7-5 lead in the fifth with a six run inning. Dirigo answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth highlighted by a 2-run triple from Kyle Clifford to take the 8-7 lead and eventual winning score.

Clifford had a triple and two singles to lead Dirigo at the plate, and Dakota Sudbeck had a double and triple. Matt Harris and Jackson Gilmore each added a single. Casey Sudbeck was the winning pitcher.

Abby Lord picks up Win and Save in victory over Orono

Monday night in Hampden, Abby Lord worked double duty and picked up both a win and a save from inside the circle as Hampden's Rawcliffe's majors softball team defeated Orono 10-9 at the Ball Field Road softball field.

Lord was the starting pitcher as Hampden rolled out to a 7-1 lead in the second inning and never trailed the rest of the way. Lord gave way to a reliever and Orono closed the gap to 10-9 with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Hampden was unable to add to their lead in the bottom half of the inning and took a one run lead into the final inning.

Orono rallied to load the bases in the top of the seventh, and with one out Lord re-entered the circle. She managed to retire the next batter, and closed the game out with a strikeout to preserve the win for Hampden.

Orono scored one run in the first, three runs in the third and fourth inning, and two in the fifth for their nine runs. Abby Weigang led Orono with two singles in the game.

Hampden scored one run in the first inning, six in the second inning, two in the third inning, and one in the fourth inning for their 10 runs. Daija Misler topped Hampden with two singles.

Ivey leads Kiwanis to first season win

In Hampden Saturday afternoon, Austin Ivey pitched five innings striking out five to earn the victory as Kiwanis pounded out 17 hits on their way to a 16-10 win over HRH. The Kiwanis win was their first of the season (1-8), while HRH falls to 3-6.

Kiwanis broke open a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning scoring nine runs to post a 12-1 lead. HRH was unable to gain any ground, as each inning they scored Kiwanis came back in their next at bat to score the same number of runs to keep HRH in an 11 run deficit.

HRH came into the bottom of the sixth trailing 16-5 and for the second straight game mounted a rally in their final at bat. They scored five runs to close the gap to 16-10, but came up short as the 11 run deficit was to much to overcome.

Vincent Gilmore topped Kiwanis with four hits in the game, all singles, and he drove in two runs. Ivey helped his own cause with three hits and two RBI's, and Jacob Seehusen added a double, triple, and two RBI's. Brendan McIntyre had two hits and two runs batted in, and Riley Sherman added two hits and an RBI. Nick Young had a double and an RBI, Zach Shurette added a single and an RBI, and Tyler Lord chipped in with a single.

Campbell and Eastman spark 8 run rally, HRH knocks off Verizon 12-8

Friday night in Hampden, Riley Eastman and Billy Campbell combined for five RBI's in the top of the sixth inning to spark an HRH come from behind 12-8 win over Verizon in Majors Little League baseball action. HRH improved to 3-5 with the victory, while Verizon lost for just the second time this season (5-2).

HRH trailed 8-4 heading into their final at bat of the game. With the bases full, Eastman ripped a 3-run triple to pull HRH to within one run at 8-7. Campbell then delivered a 2-run home run to give HRH a 9-8 lead, their first lead of the game. HRH rallied for eight runs in the inning, and held Verizon scoreless in the bottom half of the inning as winning pitcher Will Huston retired three of the four batters he faced to close out the game.

Verizon opened the game with a five run first inning, highlighted by a Destyn Fenlason 3-run homer. They added two more in the fourth, and one in the fifth to set the stage for the final inning.

Leading HRH at the plate was Campbell with a home run and two RBI's and Eastman with a triple and three RBI's. Cole Ross added a double and single with three RBI's.

Fenlason had a home run and double with five RBI's to pace Verizon. Tyler Moore added a double and single with two RBI's, and Dylan Frost had two singles and an RBI. Jordan Dysart chipped in with a double.

Dysart's rolls past Kiwanis

Thursday evening at the Little League baseball complex, Noah Parker had three hits and Dan Wirta picked up the win from the mound as Dysart's rolled to a 21-9 victory over Kiwanis.

Parker had a triple, double, and single to lead Dysart's at the plate. Ryan Manning added a double and single, and Justin St. Peter had a double.

Hitting for Kiwanis was Nic Young and Jacob Seehusen each with two singles, and Vince Gilmore, Austin Ivey, and Kyle Townsend all added a single.

Dysart's will next play on Saturday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. against Dirigo. Kiwanis will also play Saturday in the 11:30 game against HRH.

To all of the faithful viewers of the Hampden-Newburgh Little League website, Thank You for making this small, somewhat private little website a huge success over the past year. We have had nearly 6,000 visitors since we started early in the 2008 LL season, and for a small designated area site that is a success.

In order for us to continue those numbers over this next season and year, we need your help. Managers and coaches, if someone from your team could email us with your games score, top hitters (both teams), and winning pitcher we would once again be able to promote the kids who play ball in Hampden-Newburgh Little League. Keep in mind that these kids work hard at what they do, and a little reward like seeing their name in print somewhere goes a long way. Majors baseball, Minors baseball, and all of the softball teams, we need your results. It takes 5 minutes to send the information stated above.

Parents, you also can help promote these ballplayers. If you are checking this website on a regular basis and there is no mention of your team that tells you that no one is sending us information. Talk to your team Manager, let them know that these kids deserve a little recognition and the HNLL website wants to give it to them. If the Manager is not taking the 5 minutes it takes to send an email, then step up to the plate as a parent and get the information (listed above in bold) and email it to us at skip@mainesportsreport.com

Remember that this site was built for both the kids who play in the HNLL and their parents. So encourage your Manager and coaches to send us the info, and help us promote your players for the hard work they put in and the accomplishments they achieve.

Verizon cruises past Kiwanis, Dysart Homers

In Hampden Tuesday evening, David Manzo picked up the win on the mound and added two hits as Verizon improved to 5-1 with a 19-2 victory over Kiwanis.

Jordan Dysart had an Inside the Park Home Run to top Verizon at the plate. Cam Prescott added three doubles, Manzo had a double and single, and Matt Wagner added a double and single.

Vince Gilmore and Brendan McIntyre each had a single for Kiwanis, who falls to 0-7 on the season.

HAMPDEN - Hampden was buzzing with Little League action on Saturday, with both the baseball complex and the softball field going strong all day. While doing Team & Individual photos for eight teams between the baseball park and softball field, some game action photos filled up the day.

Oversmith and Wirta spark Dysarts to victory

In Hampden Saturday afternoon, Paxton Oversmith and Dan Wirta combined for six RBI's to help lead Dysart's to an 11-6 win over Kiwanis in a Hampden-Newburgh Little League Majors game. Oversmith was also the winning pitcher in the game.

Oversmith had a triple, two singles, and three RBI's, and Wirta added a double, single, and three RBI's to lead Dysarts. Patrick D'Armont and Jacob Forsman each chipped in with a single and two RBI's.

Clifford & Gardner homer's lead Dirigo to win over HRH

Saturday morning in Hampden, Kasey Clifford broke open a 2-1 game with a grand slam home run and Tristan Gardner added a 3-run homer as Dirigo cruised to an 11-2 win over HRH in a Hampden-Newburgh Little League Majors game.

Little League tryouts set for April 5

Hampden-Newburgh Little League has announced that tryouts for the 2009 season will be held on Sunday, April 5 at the new gymnasium at Hampden Academy.

Softball tryouts will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for players ages 7 to 12. Baseball tryouts for players age 7 to 9 will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Baseball players ages 10 to 12 will have tryouts from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

No player can be drafted by a major Little League baseball or softball team unless he or she attends the tryout session.

Hampden baseball Juniors fall to Orono-Veazie

Sunday night at Bordick Park in Hampden, Nick Cota hurled a complete game two hit shutout as Orono-Veazie blanked Hampden 3-0 in a Junior League District 3 baseball tournament game.

Cota pitched seven innings allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven for the win. He also aided his own cause with two hits and an RBI in the game.

After Cota set Hampden down in order in the first inning, Dominic Mowrer led off the Orono-Veazie half of the inning with a triple. Mowrer later scored on a wild pitch to provide Cota with the only run he would need. Two outs later Cota tripled and came into score on a Tyler Eddy RBI single to put O-V on top 2-0.

Orono-Veazie added their final run of the game in the third inning. With one out, Josh Storgaard walked and stole second base. He then scored on an RBI single by Cota for the 3-0 lead and eventual winning score for Orono-Veazie.

Hitting for Orono-Veazie was Cota (triple, single, RBI), Eddy (single, RBI), Mowrer (triple), Mark Dieuveuil (single), and Cam Dwyer (single).

Hampden hitters were Kent Reichel (triple) and Sam Ward (single). Pat Gunn was the tough luck losing pitcher. He scattered six hits and walked three while striking out nine.

Orono-Veazie faces Bangor at 7:30 on Tuesday, July 15, while Hampden takes on Old Town at 7:30 Monday, July 14 at 7:30.

BRONCOS WIN! Junior softball All-Stars claim District championship

Coming into Friday's District 3 Junior softball tournament game, Hampden had a large mountain to climb if they wanted to win a championship. Coming out of the losers bracket, Hampden entered the game with one loss (13-3 against Old Town) and was facing an undefeated Old Town team. Hampden would have to beat Old Town in back to back games.

In the first game the Broncos broke open a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with four runs highlighted by a Kathryn Gilio 2-run single to take a 6-2 lead. Old Town had closed the score to within three runs at 6-3 by the time they came to bat in the seventh. After scoring two quick runs on RBI singles from Brianna Shirland and McKayla Gastia, Old Town had runners on first and second with just one out. An infield fly rule made it two outs, and they were down to their last out. Emily Barnes ripped a sailing line drive towards shortstop, but Hampden's Ashley Danforth made a leaping grab of the drive to end the rally and force a second championship game.

Hitting for Hampden in the game was Gilio (single, two RBIs), Danforth (single, RBI), Sarah Lamberton (single), Olivia Plaisted (single), Kristi Melanson (single), and Katie Cyr (single). Danforth picked up the win from inside the circle.

Doing the hitting for Old Town was Shirland (two singles, two RBIs), Gastia (two singles, RBI), Ashley Abbott (two singles), Megan Cousins (single, RBI), Ashley England (single, RBI), and Suzie Outman (single).

After a solid performance in the field in game one, Hampden's defense fell apart in the opening innings of the championship game and the Broncos found themselves behind 5-0 after two innings.

The first batter of the game for Old Town, Megan Cousins, reached on a Hampden error. After a steal of second base, two more throwing errors by Hampden allowed Cousins to score the first run before the second batter took a swing. One out, two walks, and another Hampden error set the stage for a 2-run double by Caitlin Goodwin and Old Town led 3-0.

In the second inning Cousins singled with two outs, and two more Hampden errors allowed her to come all the way around to score. Suzie Outman then followed with a home run and Old Town was on top 5-0.

Old Town added one more run in both the fourth and fifth inning and led 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Hampden had just one hit over the first four innings, and was looking at a seven run deficit with just three at bats remaining.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Sarah Lamberton singled for Hampden's second hit of the game. Olivia Plaisted, who had the only other Hampden hit of the game (first inning triple), followed Lamberton and drilled a 2-run home run to finally put the Broncos on the scoreboard and cut the Old Town lead to 7-2. A very quiet Hampden bench suddenly became energized.

Old Town was held scoreless in the sixth despite having the bases loaded with two outs when Megan Cousins was caught trying to steal home to end the inning. Ashley Danforth kept the Hampden energy alive by leading off the bottom of the sixth with a single and stealing two bases. An Old Town error allowed Danforth to score and make it a 7-3 game. One out later Kylee Fogg was hit by a pitch, and Olivia Dahlberg followed with an RBI double scoring Fogg. Hampden had now closed to within three runs at 7-4. Hannah Snyder, pinch running for Dahlberg, advanced to third on a passed ball and later scored on a passed ball to make it 7-5 Old Town. Dylan Hotham, who reached on a walk, eventually scored on an Old Town error to cut the Old Town lead to 7-6.

Hampden kept the sixth inning alive when Plaisted reached on a fielder's choice with two outs and Kristi Melanson walked. Plaisted stole third, and came in to score on a wild pitch. The Broncos had now come all the way back from a seven run deficit to tie the game at 7-7. Gilio followed Melanson at the plate and ripped an RBI double scoring Melanson with Hampden's first lead of the game (8-7). Danforth, who started the inning off with a base hit, followed Gilio with an RBI single putting Hampden on top 9-7.

Melanson finished off Old Town in the top of the seventh beginning with a strike out. After a single, Melanson then got the next to batters to ground out and Hampden had accomplished what seemed nearly impossible after the first couple of innings. The Broncos had come all the way back from the losers bracket and won their fourth straight game to become the District 3 Junior All-Stars champions of 2008.

Hampden hitters were Plaisted (home run, triple, two RBIs), Danforth (two singles, RBI), Gilio (double, RBI), Dahlberg (double, RBI), Lamberton (single), and Abby Martin (single).

Hitting for Old Town was Outman (home run, RBI), Goodwin (double, two RBIs), Cousins (single), and Courtney Treadwell (single).

Ashley Danforth's 3 HRs power Broncos to Junior softball win

Thursday night at Bangor West, Ashley Danforth's bat was on fire as she slugged three home runs to power the Hampden Broncos to a 9-7 win over Glenburn in a District 3 Junior All-Stars elimination game.

Danforth had a 2-run homer in the second inning, a 3-run blast in the third inning, and a game winning 2-run in the fifth inning to give her seven RBI's in the game.

Hampden took a 3-0 lead in the second inning highlighted by Danforth's 2-run homer. Glenburn scored one in the third on a single, a Hampden error and wild pitch, and an RBI ground out by Nicole DeRoche. The Broncos answered with four runs in the bottom of the third sparked by Danforth's 3-run homer for a 7-1 lead.

Glenburn would not go away easily, rebounding with four runs in the top of the fourth to close the gap to within two runs at 7-5. A single by Sammi Schultz, two passed balls, a Hampden error, and a 2-run single by Jessica Bradford accounted for the Glenburn runs.

After Schultz struck out the side to blank Hampden in the bottom of the fourth, Glenburn scored two in the top of the fifth to bounce back from a 7-1 deficit to tie the game at 7-7. Andie Foster tripled to lead off the Glenburn inning, and one out later Schultz tripled to score Foster. Schultz would score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kathryn Gilio singled and Danforth followed with her third home run of the game to put Hampden back on top 9-7. Kristi Melanson, who came on to pitch in relief of Danforth in the fifth inning, retired Glenburn allowing just a walk in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh Glenburn threatened to do some damage. With one out, Jillian Woodward reached on an error. Schultz was intentionally walked after already recording three hits in the game. Brianna Parker lined out to second base for the second out, but Amber Oakes followed with a walk to load the bases. Melanson took care of business striking out the next batter to end the game and preserve the win.

Hitting for Hampden was Danforth (three Home Runs, seven RBIs), Gilio (two singles), and Kylee Fogg (double).

Melanson picked up the win from inside the circle with three innings of relief. She gave up two hits and two runs while walking three (one intentional) and striking out five.

Glenburn hitters were Schultz (triple, two singles, RBI), Bradford (two singles, two RBIs), and Foster (triple).

Hampden faces Old Town at 4:00 p.m. on Friday for the District 3 Championship. If Hampden is victorious in the first game the two teams will have to play a final game at 6:00 p.m. to determine the champion, as Old Town is undefeated and must lose two games.

Tuesday night in Bangor at Bangor West, Kathryn Gilio ripped a 2-run triple during a six run second inning to help lead Hampden to a 11-6 elimination win over Bangor in the District 3 Junior League softball tournament.

Leading 4-1 heading into the second inning, Hampden sent 10 batters to the plate to score six runs and take a 10-1 lead. Gilio led the way with her 2-run triple in the inning. Abby Martin and Allison Doble each added an RBI ground out, and Kylie Fogg had an RBI single in the inning.

Hampden added one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Dylan Hotham for an 11-1 lead. Bangor got four runs back in the bottom of the inning on two walks, three hit batters, and a 2-run single by Kami Prendergast.

Bangor plated one more run in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 11-6, but could not overcome the early deficit as the game was called due to insufficient daylight.

Kristi Melanson was the winning pitcher, going 3 2/3 innings and allowing just one hit. She walked five, hit three batters, and struck out seven.

Bangor hitters were Prendergast (two singles, two RBIs) and Annie Guare (single, RBI).

Taylor Hutchinson was impressive from inside the circle for Bangor. She came on in relief to start the third inning and worked the final four innings allowing just one Hampden hit. She gave up one run (unearned), walked three and struck out three to put out the Broncos fire.

Hampden takes on 1-1 Glenburn at 6:00pm Wednesday night in an elimination game.

Hampden 11-12 All-Stars pound Hermon for 18-8 win

On Tuesday in Glenburn the Hampden 11-12 baseball All-Stars pounded six home runs and scored 17 runs in their District 3 tournament opening game which lasted only four innings. Wednesday night in Hermon, the offensive barrage continued as Hampden pounded out 15 hits including home runs by Colin Vidas and Michael Ward for an 18-8 five inning win over Hermon.
Matt Martin had three hits and five RBIs and Ward added two hits and three RBIs to pace Hampden, who improved to 2-0 in the tournament. Hermon falls into the losers bracket at 0-1.

Hermon opened the game with a four run first inning, only to have Hampden come back in the bottom of the first with five runs to take a 5-4 lead. Joey Doyon had a 2-run single in the inning for Hampden.

Vidas drilled a 2-1 pitch out of the park for a two out solo home run in the second inning to put Hampden on top 6-4.

A Darius Ntacyo single and Tyler Gordon double along with two Hampden errors plated two runs for Hermon in the third inning to tie the game at 6-6. Hampden answered back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 11-6. Jack barteaux had a 2-run single in the inning, Keegan Quigley added an RBI triple, Matt Closson had an RBI single, and Martin had an RBI single.

Hampden nearly brought the game to an end in the fourth inning. Ward led off the inning and reached on an error. He advanced to third on a wild pitch, but looked to be stranded as the next two batters were retired. With two outs, Quigley drew a walk and Closson followed with a walk to load the bases. Dan Good followed with a 2-run single, and Martin delivered a 2-run single to put Hampden on top 15-6 and needing one run to end the game with the 10 run rule. Vidas followed Martin with a single up the middle and Hampden manager Basil Closson sent Martin home. Unfortunately for Hampden, ceenterfielder Tyler Gordon got the ball in quickly to short stop Jeremy Beaulieu who fired a rocket relay to catcher Tyler Thayer to nail Martin at the plate for the out to end the inning.

Hermon scored two runs in the top of the fifth to stay alive at 15-8, but Hampden came right back in the bottom of the inning. Jeremy Kelsey led off the inning with a single, and Ward followed with a two run home run for a 17-8 Hampden lead. After Brandon Maillet singled with one out, Quigley walked and with two outs Good drew a walk to load the bases. Hampden ended the game when Martin was hit by a pitch to force in the 18th run of the game for the 10 run victory.

Providing the offense for Hampden was Martin (three singles, five RBIs), Ward (HR, single, three RBIs), Vidas (HR, single, RBI), Good (single, two RBIs), Doyon (single, two RBIs), Barteaux (single, two RBIs), Quigley (triple, RBI), Closson (single, RBI), Kelsey (single, RBI), Ben Foster (single), and Maillet (single).

Quigley was the winning pitcher going four innings and giving up four hits and six runs (three earned runs). He walked four and struck three.

11-12 baseball All-Stars shell Glenburn, slam six Home Runs

Tuesday night in Glenburn, the Hampden 11-12 All-Stars baseball team put on a power show for the fans as they slugged six home runs and pounded out a total of 16 hits in their 17-3 four inning shelling of Glenburn in a District 3 All-Stars tournament opening game.

Matt Martin ripped the cover off the ball pounding three home runs good for six RBI's in the game. Also slugging the long ball was Colin Vidas, Jeremy Kelsey, and Joey Doyon. Martin, Vidas, and Kelsey hit back to back to back home runs in the Hampden 8-run second inning. Martin had a 3-run homer in the second, a 2-run homer in the third, and a solo homer in the fourth.

Vidas was the winning pitcher working all four innings. He allowed four hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out seven.

Gardner brothers spark comeback, Dirigo crowned HNLL Majors Champion

Thursday night in Hampden, No. 2 ranked Dirigo Slipform over came a four run deficit in the second inning sending 19 batters to the plate and scoring 14 runs on their way to a 26-7 victory over No. 5 ranked Kiwanis to claim the 2008 Hampden-Newburgh Little League Majors Championship. Tristan and Noah Gardner combined for five RBIs in the second inning, and Kyle Clifford was a perfect 5-5 in the game.

Kiwanis took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first highlighted by a James Gilmore RBI double. After Dirigo added one run in the bottom half of the inning, Kiwanis came back with three more runs in the top of the second for a 5-1 lead. Gilmore again had the big hit with a 2-run double in the inning.

Jackson Gilmore sparked the Dirigo bats leading off the bottom half of the second with a double. 18 batters and 13 hits later Dirigo had taken a 15-5 lead and never looked back. Highlighting the inning was a Brandon Maillet 2-run home run, a bases clearing 3-run double by Tristan Gardner, a 2-run double by Noah Gardner, and a 2-run double by Keegan Quigley.

Dirigo would continue to hit the ball well with big hits throughout the remainder of the game such as a home run by Tristan Gardner in the fifth inning, a Quigley 2-run double in the fourth inning, and a Clifford RBI double in the third and RBI single in the fourth.

Quigley was the winning pitcher working three innings and allowing four hits while walking three and striking out four. Sam Jordan closed the game with three innings of work allowing five hits and striking out three. He did not walk a batter.

Congratulations to all the Dirigo players on a great season and an outstanding performance in the biggest game of the year.

The Kiwanis players should be congratulated on an outstanding playoff performance coming out of the 5th seed. They proved you do not have to be the best in the league to be in the championship game, and should be very proud of their performance at the end of the season.

Gilmore leads Kiwanis to upset victory, Dirigo squeaks out late win over Verizon

In Majors baseball playoff action Tuesday night in Hampden, the No. 5 ranked Kiwanis earned it's second straight trip to the championship game with an 11-6 upset win over No. 1 ranked F. A. Peabody. Kiwanis lost to Peabody in the 2007 championship game.

Leading 4-1 after three innings, Kiwanis broke the game open with three runs in both the fourth and fifth inning to take a 10-2 lead into the sixth. Peabody rallied in the sixth for four runs to close the gap to 11-6 but could not overcome the nine run deficit they faced to start the inning. James Gilmore provided the highlight of the night ripping a home run in the fifth inning for his first homer of the year. Gilmore's homer was also the first home run hit off Peabody all-star pitcher Matt Martin.

On the Minor league field Tuesday night, No. 6 ranked Verizon nearly pulled off another upset but No. 2 Dirigo came from behind to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-7 victory. Dirigo will face No. 5 Kiwanis in the championship game Thursday, June 26.

Verizon held a 7-5 lead and needed three outs for the upset win as they headed into the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Harris led of the inning for Dirigo with a walk. Jackson Gilmore singled, and Harris scored on a Tristan Gardner double. Keegan Quigley drove home the tying run with a single scoring Gilmore. Gardner then sent Dirigo to the championship game as he stole home with the winning run.

Hitting for Dirigo was Gardner (triple, double), Quigley (three singles), Kyle Clifford (triple, single), Brandon Maillett (single), Sam Jordan (single), Harris (single), Gilmore (single). Jordan picked up the win pitching the final two innings.

Monday night in the Majors playoffs of the Hampden-Newburgh Little League, the lower seeded Verizon (No. 6) and Kiwanis (No. 5) both came away with victory's over higher seeded teams to advance to the semifinal round on Tuesday night.

Verizon scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never relinquished the lead as they upset No. 3 ranked Dysart's 9-7.

Trailing 9-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Dysart's got singles from Daniel Good, Noah Parker, and Ryan Manning to go with a Joey Doyon double to plate three runs but Verizon pitcher Eric Babbitt closed the game with a strike out to kill the rally and preserve the win.

Leading hitters for Verizon were Forrest Spang (two singles), Cam Scott (two singles), and Ryan Cole (two singles). Michael Ward was the winning pitcher.

Verizon will face No. 2 Dirigo Slipform on the Minors field at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 in a semifinal game. The winner will advance to the championship game on Thursday, June 26.

Kiwanis (No. 5) overcame late inning deficits and battled back for a 15-14 victory over No. 4 HRH to advance to the semifinals on Tuesday night.

Kiwanis trailed 11-5 after the fourth inning, but rallied for four runs in the fifth while holding HRH to one run to close the gap to 12-9. Kiwanis put on the big finish in the sixth with six runs to take a 15-12 lead, and held HRH to two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the come from behind win.

Majors baseball playoffs begin on Monday

With the regular season now concluded for the Majors baseball league, it is now time for the Hampden-Newburgh Little League playoffs to get underway.

The final standings (based on all games played and reported):

1. FA Peabody 15-3
2. Dirigo 14-6
3. Dysarts 10-9
4. HRH 9-9
5. Kiwanis 6-12
6. Verizon (No final record reported)

Playoffs begin Monday, June 23 with two games being played using both the Major field and the Minor field. On the Majors field No. 6 Verizon will be at No. 3 Dysart's. Down on the Minors field it will be No. 5 Kiwanis at No. 4 HRH. Defending champion FA Peabody (No. 1) and Dirigo Slipform (No. 2) both have a bye on Monday.

On Tuesday, June 24, the winner of the Kiwanis/HRH game will face FA Peabody in a semifinal game. The winner of the Verizon/Dysart's contest on Monday will play Dirigo in a semifinal game. The winner of Tuesday's games will square off (weather permitting) on Thursday, June 26 for the 2008 HNLL Championship.

Walmart Junior baseball sweeps Glenburn twin bill

Sunday in Glenburn the Hampden Walmart Junior League baseball team pounded out 23 hits and scored 27 runs as they completed a double header sweep of Glenburn. Hampden took the opening game 13-5 in six innings, and won the second game of the twin bill 14-7 as three pitchers combined on a 2-hitter.

In the opening game Cam Blood and John Pond combined for four hits and four RBIs to lead Hampden to the win.

Hampden took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Glenburn rebounded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Glenburn scored two more in the second to take a 4-3 lead. Hampden battled back with two runs in the third for a 5-4 lead, but Glenburn answered with four straight singles in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 5-5.

Hampden scored two in the fourth on RBI singles by Blood and Cooper Antone to take a 7-5 lead and never trailed again.

In game two Andrew Closson, Cam Libbey, and Cooper Antone combined on a two hitter as Hampden gained a 14-7 win.

Like the opening game of the day, Hampden scored three runs in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead. They would never relinquish the lead as they scored in every inning. Seven walks, two hit batters, and four Hampden errors allowed Glenburn to score throughout the game.

FA Peabody ends regular season on high note

Saturday afternoon in Majors baseball action, F A Peabody continued to rack up the hits and runs as they cruised to a 22-4 victory over Dysart's in both teams final regular season game.

Peabody is peaking just at the right time with the HNLL playoffs beginning on Monday, June 23. They have now scored an amazing 65 runs over their last 16 innings of play in three games.

Friday night in Majors baseball action, the F. A. Peabody bats were on fire as they pounded out 15 hits on their way to a 20-10 victory over Kiwanis.

Peabody led 5-2 after the first inning, but Kiwanis took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Peabody put the game away in the third inning with 10 runs and never looked back.

Dysart's overcomes 5-run deficit in 6th inning, HRH scores game winner in bottom 6th

Thursday night in Hampden HRH gave up a five run lead in the top of the sixth inning but came back to score the winning run in the bottom half of the inning for an 11-10 victory over Dysart's in Majors baseball action.

Dysarts took the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, and HRH cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning.

Down by five with three outs left, Dysart's finally was able to catch a break in the game and rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 10-10. Will Huston led off the bottom of the sixth for HRH and reached on an error. Matt Closson followed with a single, and HRH loaded the bases with nobody out. Huston was tagged out at the plate on the next play, and Dysart's needed just two more outs to end the inning. With the bases still loaded, a pitch into the dirt scampered past Dysart's catcher Ryan Richards and Closson raced home safely to score the winning run for HRH.

Majors baseball weekly highlights

In Majors baseball action this week Dysart's recorded a victory over Verizon on Monday, while FA Peabody had wins over HRH and Dirigo Slipform.

Dysart's vs Verizon (Monday)

Dysart's scored two in the top of the first on an RBI double by Joey Doyon and a fielders choice. Verizon plated a run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Jordyn Dysart.

Paxton Oversmith walked in the top of the fourth and scored on a fielders choice. In the fifth inning a Ryan Richards single, Ryan Manning double, and a walk to Oversmith loaded the bases for Dysart's. Jacob Forsman picked up an RBI on a walk, Manning scored on a fielders choice, and a Tyler Reed double scored two more runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, David Manzo, who also doubled in the fourth, led off with a walk. Tyler Moore walked and Eric Babbit walked to load the bases with one out for Verizon. Manzo scored on a Dysart's error, making it 7-2, but the game ended with two pop ups in the infield to give Dysart's the victory. Daniel Good was the winning pitcher.

HRH vs FA Peabody (Tuesday)

HRH and FA Peabody faced off in their last game of the season. All year long HRH has been an issue for FA Peabody giving them a run for their money every game. This game would not be any different. The starting pitcher for FA Peabody was Dillon Cray who allowed one run in the first inning and one run in the second. HRH's pitcher was Matt Closson who gave up one run in the first and four runs in the second. At the beginning of the third inning, FA Peabody was leading 5-2. In the top of the third inning HRH added four runs making the score 6-5. HRH would score one more run while FA Peabody went on to add five more runs to win the game 10-7. Jeremy Kelsey was the winning pitcher for FA Peabody.

Matt Martin had two doubles and a home run to lead Peabody, and Kelsey had three singles. HRH was led at the plate by Jack Barteaux with a double and single, and Billy Campbell with two singles.

FA Peabody vs Dirigo Slipform (Wednesday)

In a make up contest from a May rain out, FA Peabody and Dirigo have been battling each other all season for first place. Peabody had Nick Haggan on the mound, while Dirigo went with Sam Jordan.

Peabody put two quick runs on the board for a 2-0 lead. Dakota Sudbeck , Dirigo's first batter, tripled to right field. Haggan settled in on the mound for Peabody and retired the next three batters.

FA Peabody plated three more runs in the second inning, and continued to pile on the runs for a 15-2 victory. Haggan completed the game with 85 pitches thrown for the win. This was his first complete game, and by today's standards with the pitch count a real accomplishment for this first year pitcher.

Leading Peabody at the plate was Jeremy Kelsey and Luther Vom Eigen with four singles each, Matt Martin with a double and single, and Jake Maltz with three singles.

Dirigo batting leaders were Sudbeck with a double and triple, Tristen Gardner and Keegan Quigley each with a single.

Edwards defeats Rivertown in Minor Softball

Monday night on Ball Field Road, the Minors softball girls weathered the mist and the rain and the cool temperatures as Edwards defeated Rivertown Eye care 15-12.

Leading Edwards at the plate was Erica Martin with a double and two singles, Alyson Leino with three singles, and Courtney Dunton with three singles.

Rivertown Eye Care was led by Rachael Kocik with three singles, Julia Sicard with a triple and single, and Casey Peabody with two singles.

Good powers Dysarts to 12-11 win over Kiwanis

Saturday in Majors baseball action, Daniel Good powered Dysarts to a 12-11 win over Kiwanis with two home runs, a double, and six RBIs on the day. Ryan Manning was the winning pitcher.

Good led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run. Kiwanis took the lead with four runs in the top of the second on hits by Vince Gilmore, Austin Ivey, Tyler Lord, and Richie Rawcliffe. Dysarts battled back with three runs on a Jacob Forsman single, a walk to Justin St. Peter, and a 2-run double by Good, who also scored on a fielders choice.

Kiwanis scored again in the top of the fourth inning on two walks and a single by Gilmore. Dysart's answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning with a walk, a triple by Noah Parker, a hit batter, and a Kiwanis error.

In the top of the fifth Kiwanis scored five runs to take a 10-7 lead. Three walks, a Kyle Townsend base hit, a triple by Ivey and a Dysart's error accounted for the Kiwanis runs. Dysarts came back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs of their own to take a 12-10 lead. Singles by Jacob Michaud and Dan Wirta, and a three run home run by Good, along with a triple by Parker and singles from Joey Doyon, Ryan Richards, and Ryan Manning attributed to the Dysarts scoring.

Kiwanis threatened in the top of the sixth, scoring one run on a bases loaded error by Dysart's. Kiwanis left the bases loaded and trailing by one run on a pop up to second base to end the game.

FA Peabody edges Dirigo 5-4, Gardner hits Grand Slam

Friday night in Majors baseball action, FA Peabody took a 5-0 lead into the top of the sixth and held off a Dirigo rally for a 5-4 win. FAP improves to 12-3 on the season, while Dirigo slips to 11-5.

FA Peabody took the lead in the first inning of play 2-0. They added a third run when Jake Maltz walked and rounded first base. The throw to first was missed by the first baseman allowing Maltz to round second and head for third. A throw to third base was extremely close and when Maltz slid the third baseman missed the ball allowing Maltz to score.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth when FA Peabody score two more runs off a Matt Martin blast over the center field fence for a two run home run. FA Peabody entered the top of the sixth inning ahead by a score of 5-0.

In the top of the sixth Martin, who had reached his pitch limit, was removed from the game and placed at shortstop. The catcher, Luther Vom Eigen, came in to close for Peabody. The bases ended up being loaded with two outs when Tristan Gardner came to the plate. The first pitch to Gardner was a hitters pitch which he took full advantage of by sending the ball over the left field fence for a grand slam home run to cut the Peabody lead to 5-4. Vom Eigen managed to strike out the next batter to kill the rally and end the game.

FA Peabody manager Perry Antone knew the game would be a good one. "These two teams have been battling all year for the top spot in the Hampden-Newburgh Little League standings, and one can expect exciting baseball whenever they meet on the diamond" said Antone.

Peabody was led at the plate by Matt Martin with a single, double and home run. Martin was also the winning pitcher.

Gardner topped Dirigo with a single and a home run (grand slam).

Edwards cruises to victory over Lafayette

Thursday night on Ball Field Road, Edwards defeated Lafayette 19-8 in Minors softball action.

Erica Martin led Edwards at the plate with a home run and a double, and Courtney Dunton added a double and two singles.

Lafayette was led by Erin Murphy with a double and single, and Caitlin O'Kendley with two singles.

Dysart's knocks off Dirigo 6-4

Tuesday night in Majors action, Dysarts scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never gave up the lead as they defeated Dirigo 6-4. Dysart's improved to 8-8 with the win, while Dirigo fell to 11-4.

A Noah Parker single and Paxton Oversmith double plated the three runs in the first inning for Dysarts. They added two more in the top of the fourth on a double by Parker.

Dirigo plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth on three Dysart's errors. They added one more run in the bottom of the sixth on a Brandon Maillet double and a Dysart error.

Leading Dysart's in hitting was Parker with a single and double, and Oversmith with a double. Joey Doyon added a single. Daniel Good was the winning pitcher.

Dirigo was led by Maillet with a double, and Kyle Clifford, Dakota Sudbeck, and Matt Harris all with a single.

FA Peabody 9 run inning leads to victory over Dysarts

Monday night in Majors action at Hampden, FA Peabody scored nine runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good as they defeated Dysarts 18-11.

Dysart's scored two runs in the first  inning only to be answered by FA Peabody's three runs in the bottom of the first.  Dysart's scored four more runs in the second  with the bottom of the order providing the  hits needed. FA Peabody came back to plate four runs making the score at the end of  the second inning 7-6 with FA Peabody leading the game.

Dysart's took the  lead in the top of the fourth by scoring four runs,however,when Peabody came  to the plate in the bottom of the fourth they were ready and provided enough  hits to score nine runs as they batted around the order.

The starting pitcher for FA Peabody  was Nick Haggan, who pitched into the second inning before Luther Vom Eigen was  called in relief. Vom Eigen pitched into the sixth inning until he  reached his pitch count with two outs in the top of the sixth. A call to Tyler  Arbo proved to be enough, as he pitched well enough to strikeout the last batter  of the game.

Ryan Manning pitched for Dysart's, throwing very well throughout and reaching his pitch count late in the game to be relieved by Dan Wirta.

The winning pitcher of the game was Vom Eigen. Leading Peabody at the plate was Vom Eigen with a double and single, Matt Martin with a home run, and Arbo with two singles.

Dysarts was led by Noah Parker and Manning each with two singles, and Joey Doyon with a single.

Martin hurls Perfect Game, strikes out 18

Saturday afternoon in Hampden, Matt Martin of FA Peabody accomplished what every young pitcher aspires to do on a baseball field. Martin dominated his opponent, Verizon, and hurled a perfect no hit game for an 11-0 Peabody win.

Martin was not just perfect, he was on fire and brilliant in his performance. He threw just 76 pitches (4.2 per batter) and struck out all 18 batters he faced. His performance on Saturday will be remembered as one of the all time greatest performances in Hampden-Newburgh Little League history for years to come.

Peabody Manager Perry Antone was not surprised by Martin's performance. "He was in a zone and needed no coaching from me. It was nice to be able to watch him at work. He was throwing the best I have ever seen him throw", said Antone. "He gave Luther (Vom Eigen) a workout behind the plate. Not everyone can catch Matt, he throws with such velocity it punishes the catcher at times! It has been such a pleasure to coach these kids" added Antone.

Jake Maltz and Luther Vom Eigen led Peabody at the plate with two singles each.

HRH comes from behind for 9-7 win

At the Hampden-Newburgh Little League baseball complex Saturday morning, HRH overcame a 4-0 first inning deficit and went on to defeat Dysarts 9-7 in five innings.

Dysarts plated four runs in bottom half of the first inning to take the lead, but HRH rebounded in the second inning and got three runs back and went on to score two in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth to lead 9-4. Dysarts battled back with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth but came up short as the game was called due to time constraints.

Vidas, Foster lead Kiwanis to 3-2 win over FA Peabody

Saturday morning at the HNLL baseball complex, James Gilmore drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI and Colin Vidas delivered a 2-run single to spot Kiwanis with a 3-0 lead and they held on for a 3-2 victory over F. A. Peabody.

Kiwanis scored all their runs in the third inning, and led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Peabody got thier first hit of the game and their first run on one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fourth.

Matt Martin drilled a towering home run over the left field fence that landed on the outfield grass of the Minor league field to make it a 3-1 game.

Peabody picked up one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Nick Haggan, but came up short when Kiwanis pitcher Ben Foster got the final out on a called third strike with the tying and winning runs stranded at second and third base.

Vidas had a single and two RBIs to top Kiwanis. Vince Gilmore, Isaac Foster, Robert Stowe, and Richie Rawcliffe each added a single, and James Gilmore had an RBI.

Ben Foster picked up the win on the mound pitching six innings, allowing three hits, and striking out six.

Martin had a home run, Jeremy Kelsey a double, and Haggan an RBI single to lead Peabody. Kelsey gave a solid performance on the mound in relief. He came into the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the third inning, gave up one hit to the first batter, and shut the door on Kiwanis the rest of the way. He worked four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one.

Dirigo pulling away from pack, win 3 over weekend

This weekend the Dirigo baseball team took a big step in becoming the #1 team in the Majors division of Hampden-Newburgh Little League with three wins in three games covering Friday night and a doubleheader Saturday, and have now improved to 11-3 on the season.

On Friday night Dirigo defeated Verizon 15-7 led by the power hitting of Brandon Maillet. Tristan Gardner picked up the win on the mound. Maillet led Dirigo at the plate with two home runs and a double. Dakota Sudbeck and Gardner each added four singles. Verizon was led in batting by Cam Scott with two doubles.

In Saturday's first game, Dirigo squeaked out an 8-7 victory over HRH. Kyle Clifford was the winning pitcher. Clifford had two singles and Matt Harris added a double to lead Dirigo at the plate. HRH was led by Jack Barteaux with a double and single, Matt Closson with two singles, and Matt Stacey with a double.

The second game of the Saturday twin bill included five extra base hits for Dirigo as they defeated Kiwanis 10-4. Sam Jordan was the winning pitcher for Dirigo. Leading Dirigo at the plate was Brandon Maillett with a home run and two singles, Keegan Quigley with a triple and two doubles, Kyle Clifford with a double and two singles, and Dakota Sudbeck with four singles. Kiwanis was led by Colin Vidas with a double and single.

Dysarts gets win over Kiwanis

Edwards pulls out 11-10 win over Rivertown

Evelyn Thompson led Lafayette with two singles.

Monday night in Hampden, Noah Parker, Joey Doyon, and Ryan Richards combined for 13 hits as the Dysarts bats exploded for a 14-4 victory over Verizon in Majors baseball action. Richards and Ryan Manning drilled back to back home runs in the fourth inning.

Doyon had five hits and two RBIs on the night with a triple, double, and three singles. Richards had four hits and three RBIs including a Home Run, double, and two singles, and Parker added a triple, double, and two singles.

Manning had a 2-run Home Run, Paxton Oversmith added a double, single, and an RBI, and Daniel Good had a double, single, and an RBI. Good was the winning pitcher.

Eric Babbitt and Mike Ward each had two singles for Verizon, and Forrest Spang added a double.

Hampden-Newburgh LL takes part in Memorial Day parade

Dirigo steals one from Dysarts, Quigley K's 12

Friday night in Hampden, Keegan Quigley struck out 12 and went the distance for the win as Dirigo Slipform stole the game away from Dysarts with a come from behind 4-3 victory in majors baseball action.

Dysarts plated three runs in the bottom of the first as Quigley struggled through the inning, but over the next five innings he was throwing bullets as he went the distance with 84 pitches and 12 strikeouts.

Dirigo got one run back in the top of the third, but still trailed 3-1 heading into the top of the fifth. Tristan Gardner doubled in the fifth, and eventually came around to score the tying run. Quigley did his job shutting down Dysarts in the bottom half of the fifth leaving the game tied at 3-3.

In the sixth Brandon Maillet doubled and advanced to third. Maillet then caught Dysarts sleeping and took off for home plate and beating the tag to give Dirigo a 4-3 lead.

Dysarts would not go away, despite having just one out left. Joey Doyon doubled with two outs, and eventually took off for third base on a stolen base attempt. The throw down to third bounced past the Dirigo third baseman Maillet and rolled into shallow left field. Jackson Gilmore jumped on the ball and threw to home plate. The ball arrived in catcher Kyle Clifford's mitt forehead high, but two steps ahead of Doyon who was tagged out by Clifford for the final out of the game.

Maillet had a double and a steal of home plate for Dirigo, and Tristan Gardner added a double and scored the tying run in the fifth. Dakota Sudbeck added a single.

Ryan Manning had a double and single for Dysarts, and Doyon added a double, single, and an RBI. Dan Good had a single and an RBI, and Noah Parker added a single.

Dirigo knocks off HRH 15-12

In majors action on Tuesday, Dirigo Slipform defeated HRH 15-12. Matt Harris was the winning pitcher and Dakota Sudbeck had a four hit night.

Sudbeck topped all hitters with four singles to lead Dirigo. Drew Gilmore added two singles, and Ben DiSalvatore had a double.

HRH was led at the plate by Matt Closson with a triple and single, Alexander Hollis with a double and single, and Riley Eastman, Will Campbell, and Will Huston each with two singles.

Verizon cruises past Kiwanis 13-4, Standings Update

In Majors baseball action at the Canoe Road baseball complex on Thursday night, Verizon picked up their second win (2-6) of the season with a 13-4 victory over Kiwanis (3-7).

Mike Ward was the winning pitcher, and leading Verizon at the plate was Cam Scott with two singles, David Manzo with a double, and Destyn Fenlason also with a double.

Robert Stowe and Jay Baines each had a single to lead Kiwanis.

In Minor League softball action at Ball Field Road on Thursday night, Edwards managed to squeak out a 15-14 victory over Lafayette. With the win Edwards improves to 4-1 on the season, while Lafayette falls to 0-3.

Leading hitters for Edwards were Erica Martin with a triple and two singles, and both Hannah Daigle and Nicole Quigley had two singles.

Top hitters for Lafayette were Daija Misler with a triple and two singles, Emily Stevens with two doubles and a single, and Elise Daub with three singles.

Quigley leads Sportshoe to 4-2 win over Rivertown

In Minor League softball action on Wednesday, Sportshoe defeated Rivertown 4-2 behind the excellent pitching performance of Kerry Quigley.

Winning pitcher Quigley tallied eight strikeouts and only four walks for the entire game.

Rivertown's Lily Salfi was the top hitter in the game going 3-3 with three singles.

Sportshoe remains undefeated at 3-0-1.

FA Peabody knocks off Dysart's 14-9, Maltz gets 4 hits

In Majors action Wednesday night, F. A. Peabody defeated Dysart's 14-9 as Jake Maltz and Luther Vom Eigen combined for seven hits.

Maltz led Peabody with a triple, double, and two singles, and Vom Eigen had two doubles and a single. Jeremy Kelsey added a double and single. Dylan Cray was the winning pitcher for Peabody.

Noah Parker, Daniel Good, and Ryan Richards each had two singles to lead Dysart's at the plate.

FA Peabody improves to 7-2 on the season, and Dysart's drops to 6-6.

F. A. Peabody edges Kiwanis 6-5

Tuesday night the F. A. Peabody majors baseball team regained the first place spot in the standings with a 6-5 win over Kiwanis. FAP improves to 6-2 on the season and holds a 1/2 game lead over Dirigo (6-3). Kiwanis falls to 3-6 on the season.

Jake Maltz and Luther Vom Eigen each had a double and single to lead Peabody, and Jeremy Kelsey added two singles. Matt Martin was the winning pitcher.

Kurt Townsend had two singles to lead Kiwanis at the plate.

Dirigo picks up Saturday win, Standings Updated

On Saturday in Hampden at the little league baseball complex, the Dirigo Slipform majors team took over first place with a 10-5 victory over Verizon. Dirigo improved to 6-3 on the season with the victory.

Jackson Gilmore had three singles, and Ben DiSalvatore and Dustin Ramsey each had two singles to lead Dirigo. Keegan Quigley was the winning pitcher.

Verizon was led by Forrest Spang with a double and single, David Manzo with two singles, and Cam Scott with a double.

Dysart's grabs 2 wins in 2 games on Saturday

Saturday at the Hampden Little League baseball complex, the Dysart's major league team picked up two wins on the day to move to one game over .500.

In their first game of the day, Dysart's defeated Verizon 5-4. Noah Parker pitched five strong innings, and Ryan Manning closed the game and picked up the win. Michael Ward of Verizon had a strong outing as well.

Parker led Dysart's with a Home Run and a single, and he scored two runs. Daniel Good had a single and scored two runs. Clark Bjorn drove in Manning on a fielders choice for what would become the game winning run in the top of the sixth inning.

Ward led Verizon with two singles and two RBIs.

In the second game of the day for Dysart's, Daniel Good, Ryan Manning, and Joey Doyon combined for 17 Runs Batted In to lead Dysart's to a 20-14 win over HRH. The Dysart's victory improved them to 5-4 on the season.

Over the first three innings Dysart's held an 8-7 lead, but exploded for 12 hits over the final three innings.

Manning had a Home Run, two doubles, and a single with seven RBIs to lead Dysarts. Doyon added a double and three singles with four RBIs, and Good had a double and two singles with six RBIs. Noah Parker had four singles and Clark Bjorn added two singles. The Winning Pitcher was Good.

Matt Closson had two doubles and two singles with four RBIs to lead HRH. Bill Campbell added a double and single with two RBIs, Will Houston had a double and single, and Eric Armstrong had a double.

Walmart falls to Glenburn in Junior League baseball action

Sunday morning at Bordick Park in Hampden, Brandon Thayer went 5-5 with three doubles and two singles and Grady Hayes had a home run and a double with four RBIs as Glenburn routed Walmart (Hampden) 15-3 in Junior League baseball action.

Glenburn held a 6-0 lead after two and a half innings before Hampden got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. Glenburn came right back with five runs in the top of the fourth highlighted by an Inside-The-Park home run from Hayes with two runners aboard.

Two more runs in each of the final two innings put Glenburn on top 15-2 before an RBI double by Hampden's Cam Libbey plated the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Thayer had five hits including three doubles with an RBI and four runs scored, and Hayes had a double and home run with four RBIs to lead Glenburn. Andrew caitlin added three singles and an RBI, and both Mike Nickerson and Devon Romain chipped in with a single.

Libbey and Andrew Closson each had a double and an RBI to lead Hampden, and Cam Blood added a single.

Barteaux and Huston hurl NO-HITTER in HRH victory

Friday night in Hampden, Jack Barteaux and Ben Huston combined on a no-hitter as HRH defeated F. A. Peabody 4-1 in Majors baseball little league action. HRH improves to 3-4 on the season, while FAP falls to 5-2.

HRH scored two runs in top of the first, led 2-0 in the fifth when they added one more run, and after FAP scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the fifth, HRH regained their three run lead with a final score in the top of the sixth.

Barteaux, with only three strikeouts in the game, got a lot of help from the flawless defense behind him before giving way to Huston in the sixth with one out after reaching the 85 pitch count limit.

Maillet and Gardner power Dirigo to victory

On Wednesday night Tristan Gardner and Brandon Maillet powered Dirigo to a 20-13 win over Kiwanis in Majors action. With the win, Dirigo improves to 5-3 and Kiwanis falls to 3-5 with the loss.

Gardner and Maillet both delivered a home run in the game. Maillet also had a double, and Gardner had a single to go along with his HR. Matt Harris picked up the win on the mound for Dirigo.

Leading Kiwanis at the plate was Austin Ivey with a double and single, and both James Gilmore and Richie Rawcliffe with two singles.

Kiwanis edges Dysarts 6-5, Standings Update

On the minor league field Tuesday night, Kiwanis picked up their third win of the season with a 6-5 victory over Dysarts in a Majors contest. Both Kiwanis and Dysarts now have a record of 3-4 on the season.

Leading Kiwanis to the win was Colin Vidas and James Gilmore with two singles each, and Richie Rawcliffe with a triple. Vidas was the winning pitcher for Kiwanis.

Joey Doyon had two singles to lead Dysarts.

Tuesday night in Hampden, Jake Maltz had three hits to lead F. A. Peabody to a 14-4 win over Dirigo Slipform. FAP improves to 5-1 on the season, while Dirigo falls to 3-4.

Maltz had a single, double, and triple to lead Peabody. Jeremy Kelsey added a double and triple, and Matt Martin had a double and single. Martin picked up the win on the mound for FAP.

Tristen Gardner and Sam Jordan were the top hitters for Dirigo, both picking up a double.

Monday night Billy Campbell had a triple and two doubles to lead HRH to a 17-12 win over Kiwanis. Both teams now have a record of 2-4.

Joining Campbell among the top hitters for HRH were Kyle Tolman with three singles, Jack Barteaux with a triple and single, and Matt Closson had a double and single. Campbell was the winning pitcher for HRH.

The top hitters for Kiwanis were James Gilmore with a double and two singles, Ben Foster and Colin Vidas with three singles each, and Robert Stowe with two singles.

Saturday afternoon in Hampden, Dylan Craig allowed one run over four innings of work and Jeremy Kelsey and Matt Martin combined to drive in four runs as F. A. Peabody defeated Verizon 8-4 in a majors baseball contest.

Peabody scored three runs in top of the first inning and never relinquished the lead. They added three more runs in the fourth and two in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead before Verizon plated three runs in the fifth to cut the Peabody lead in half.

Registration Time and Date

Registration for 2008 Hampden-Newburgh Little League is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12 at the Hampden Municipal Building Community Meeting Room. Registration is from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

All baseball players ages 7-16 in Hampden and Newburgh are eligible. All softball players ages 7-16 in Hampden, Newburgh, and Winterport are eligible.
