Kohl Ross and Billy Campbell sparked Anglers at the plate, and Ben Huston got the job done on the mound as Anglers came back from a four run first inning deficit to cruise past FA Peabody for a 19-9 victory to claim the 2010 Hampden-Newburgh Little League championship Monday night in Hampden in front of a huge crowd of parents, family, friends, and fans.
Ross had two doubles, a triple, a single, and five RBIs at the plate, and Campbell added a Home Run, double, and four RBIs to spark Anglers offensively. Huston, after struggling in the first inning, picked up the win holding Peabody scoreless over the second, third, and fourth innings while his team piled on the runs.
Peabody opened the game with a four run first inning highlighted by a Dylan Cray 2-run single and RBI singles by Zach Boss and Connor Roy. Anglers got right back into the game in the bottom half of the first when Ben Huston walked and came all the way around to score on Peabody throwing errors, an Eric Armstrong single, and a two run home run by Campbell.
Anglers added four runs in the second on two run singles by Ross and Mike Labun to take a 7-4 lead. They added five runs in the fourth highlighted by a 2-run triple from Ross and an RBI triple by Cam Scott for a 12-4 lead.
Peabody closed the gap with a four run fifth inning on four singles and a walk to close the score to 12-8, but Anglers answered back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away. Campbell had a 2-run double in the inning, while Ross and Scott added RBI doubles and Huston had an RBI single.
FA Peabody scored four in the first, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Anglers scored three in the first, four in the second, five in the fourth, and seven in the fifth inning.
Joining Ross and Campbell at the plate for the Anglers was Scott and Michael Veneziano each with a single, double, triple, and two RBIs. Huston had two singles, a double, and an RBI, and Labun added a single and two RBIs.
Cray had a double, single, and two RBIs to lead Peabody at the plate. Andrew Gendreau added two singles, while Roy and Boss each had an RBI single.
