HAMPDEN - Matt Hawes held the Holbrook White bats in check Sunday afternoon allowing just two runs on three hits over a game shortened five innings as the Hampden Dirigo Junior League team cruised to a 14-2 win at Bordick Park.
After issuing a lead off walk to start the game, Hawes retired the next eight batters he faced while the Dirigo bats built up a 13-0 lead over the first three innings. Holbrook finally broke through for two runs off Hawes in the fourth inning on three hits.
Hawes cruised through the fifth inning to close the game out, as both teams agreed to call the game because Holbrook had another game to follow.
Hampden had 14 runs on 11 hits, and did not make an error (14-11-0). Leading Dirigo in hitting was Brian Fickett with a triple, single, and three RBIs and Matt Martin with three singles and three RBIs. Kurt Townsend had two singles and two RBIs, Hawes had a single and two RBIs, and Cooper Antone added a single and an RBI. Tim Coston and CJ Warren both chipped in with a single.
Holbrook scored two runs on three hits, and they committed four errors. John Collins led Holbrook with a double and two RBIs, while Rylan Norris and Josh Williams each added a single.
